Advance Rotating Carriage Sterilizer for Emulsions
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities process various products that are different in their form, nature, and characteristic. Therefore, a suitable method for processing these products is adopted that takes care of the process and is simultaneously compatible with the product’s nature and characteristics. Sterilization is one of the essential steps in any sterile manufacturing and therefore becomes an integral part of every manufacturing process. Sterilization is involved in different manufacturing stages, from material entry into the clean area to the final product packed in its container.
Different sterilization methods are adopted to process various loads that are diverse in nature and characteristics. For example, garment sterilization is carried out using steam sterilization with vacuum pulses as air/NCG removal from the porous load is vital for effective steam penetration. Whereas the liquid product packed in closed containers requires terminal sterilization using the super-heated water + air overpressure method. As super-heated water takes care of container, air overpressure restricts container deformation due to liquid expansion during sterilization.
Similarly, emulsion products necessitate continuous sloshing to keep liquid uniform during sterilization. The load mounted on the carriage is continuously rotated for constant sloshing during sterilization. Using a conventional rotating carriage sterilizer for Emulsion offers several operational and handling challenges, as mentioned below.
- Manual engaging and locking of the carriage with a rotating drive mechanism:
Typically, engaging and locking the carriage with a rotating drive mechanism is carried out using a manual jacking arrangement. However, manual engaging/disengaging and locking the carriage is a strenuous activity for the operating personnel, especially when the chamber is hot, making the user’s job unsafe, difficult & cumbersome.
- Handling multiple carriages with heavy loads into the sterilizer chamber:
Loading multiple cages into the sterilizer chamber and rotating heavy loads through the drive becomes a highly challenging job.
- Cycle validation using wired temperature sensors in rotating carriage:
Using wired temperature sensors in rotating load/carriage adds a challenge to the cycle validation.
To overcome these challenges and make the overall sterilization process efficient, Pharmalab engineers have designed a new advance rotating carriage sterilizer.
The advanced design eliminates the strenuous activity of engaging/disengaging the carriage in the sterilizer chamber. In addition, locking the carriage with a rotating drive mechanism is simplified and enabled using a fingertip, thus, making the overall engaging/disengaging and locking/unlocking of the carriage safe, easy and user-friendly.
Moreover, handling multiple carriages for large volume load is simplified with this advanced design. The loading, engaging and locking of the multiple carriages remain the same as for the single carriage. In addition, the sturdy design of the rotating drive mechanism makes the sterilization of heavily loaded multiple carriages smooth and easy.
This advanced design facilitates accurate cycle validation of rotating loads through wireless temperature sensors and data loggers. Multiple wireless sensors can be placed in the load across the carriage. The data logger enables temperature recording of multiple sensors throughout the sterilization cycle, which can be further integrated with the overall cycle report.
Thus, Pharmalab’s new advance rotating carriage sterilizer brings operational safety, efficiency, accuracy, simplicity and ease of operation.
